Over 30,000 Babies Born Since Roe v. Wade Overturned, New Study Shows
A Win for Families and Babies
In a new study published by the Institute of Labor Economics, it has been revealed that over 30,000 additional babies have been born since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022. This statistic brings hope to families and supporters of the pro-life movement.
States Without Abortion Restrictions Experience Increase in Births
The study, which analyzed data from the first half of 2023, found that births increased by approximately 2.3 percent in states that did not allow abortion. This was compared to states that did not have any restrictions in place. These findings highlight the impact of abortion restrictions on birth rates.
32,000 Babies Born in States with Abortion Restrictions
The study conducted by the Institute of Labor Economics focused on the effects of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which returned the issue of abortion to the states. It revealed that since the ruling, at least 30,000 babies have been born in states with some form of abortion restriction. This suggests that these restrictions have played a significant role in saving the lives of unborn children.
Success of Abortion Restrictions
Currently, 14 states have enacted abortion bans, and the study's findings support the notion that these restrictions have been effective in reducing the number of abortions. Women who sought abortions in these states had to travel approximately seven times farther to access an abortion clinic, further highlighting the impact of these restrictions.
Controversial Decision Sparks Debate
The overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022 sparked intense debate and division. Justice Samuel Alito, who played a role in the decision, stated, "Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division."
With the decision now in the hands of individual states, the debate surrounding abortion continues to be a highly contentious issue in American society.
