Apathy Towards Military Service on the Rise

In Israel, every citizen is required to serve in the Israel Defense Forces for at least a year. But would Americans be ready to fight for our country if we were pulled into a major war? According to a recent poll by Echelon Insights, a staggering 72 percent of Americans say they would not volunteer for military service in a major war.

Struggling Recruitment Targets

The figures from the poll come as all branches of the armed forces in the U.S. have been struggling to meet their recruitment targets in recent years. This suggests a growing apathy towards a career of military service, as reported by Newsweek.

Lack of Willingness to Sacrifice

Another recent survey found that less than half of Democrats would be willing to die for our country in the event of an invasion. Additionally, around 30 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds would rather surrender to the enemy than fight, according to the Daily Mail.

Changing Attitudes and National Security

These shifting attitudes about duty and sacrifice do not bode well for our national security. Young Americans have been exposed to a culture that denigrates patriotism and focuses on the failures of the past. Colleges have promoted the narrative that American and Western values are synonymous with racism, colonialism, and oppression, leading to a pessimistic view of America's role in the world.

The Weaker Generation and Digital Lives

Today's generation of Americans is weaker and more coddled than any generation before, leading more digital lives. The question arises whether they would be able to withstand the rigors taken on by the "Greatest Generation." The long, messy war in Afghanistan and the promotion of a pessimistic view of America's role in the world have added to this skepticism.

The Blame Game

The U.S. military itself bears some of the blame for the apathy towards military service. By embracing the worst excesses of the woke left and forcing service members to serve as lab rats for the newly released COVID-19 vaccines, the military has contributed to the decline in enthusiasm for serving the nation.

The Cost of Complacency

While the costs of war should never be minimized, a citizenry that has lost its will to fight for its nation is doomed. With threats multiplying globally and a nation that has grown flabby and self-righteous, the lack of willingness to fight poses a slow-boiling crisis.

A Wake-Up Call

Let's hope that it doesn't take another tragedy to jolt Americans out of their complacency. The threats to our nation's security are real, and it's time for a renewed sense of duty and sacrifice.
